Three Things I Would Like to Learn
Posted in Three Things I Would Like to Learn on June 12, 2008 by leeheejeongChild Abuse
Posted in Child Abuse on June 5, 2008 by leeheejeongChild abuse is the physical, psychological or sexual maltreatment of children. While most child abuse happens in the child’s home, a significant portion also occurs in organizations involving children, such as churches, schools, childcare businesses, and residential schools.
In Korea, the physical maltreatment by parents accounts for 80% of all child abuse. This is a very serious problem. The reason why there is a lot of physical maltreatment by parents in Korea is that Korean people think corporal punishment is natural. Korean people think corporal punishment is ‘whipping with love’ and inflict corporal punishment on their children. For that reason, corporal punishment accounts for 33% in Japan, and 26% in America, but 72% in Korea!
I think we need legal, social, individual solution to physical maltreatment by parents. First, legally, We shouldn’t see parents’ physical maltreatment as only home’s problem and leave as it is. They must be punished strictly. In Korea, they are punished lightly and backed home. Then their physical maltreatment is repeated. Korea also should deprive parental rights and forbid them to approach like other country. Secondly, socially, child abuse more often happens in poor home. Therefore we expand more organization to protecting abused children. Third, personally, we should change our recognition. Parents should change their conventional thinking that corporal punishment is natural and find new punishment way. We also shouldn’t see parents’ physical maltreatment as only home’s problem. We should immediately notify when we see that and have a mind to help children.

Posted in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street on May 12, 2008 by leeheejeongA movie I recently saw is Sweeney Todd : The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. This movie released in January 2008. Genre is crime, drama, musical, and thriller. Tim Burton is director and Johnny Depp is actor. They are famous an excellent pair. However this movie, One barber’s cruel vengeance drama, was underestimated. People said that movie is similar to previous Tim Burton and Johnny Depp’s movies. However I think Sweeney Todd was very funny and exciting. I couldn’t feel similarity.
The Most Influential Korean Figure in History
Posted in The Most Influential Korean Figure in History on May 12, 2008 by leeheejeongI think the most influential Korean figure in history is Gwanggaeto the Great of Goguryeo. He was the nineteenth monarch of Goguryeo, the northernmost of the Three Kingdoms of Korea. The following is why I think Gwanggaeto the Great of Goguryeo is the most influential Korean figure.
First, he expanded the territory. Except for the period of 200 years beginning with his son and successor, King Jangsu, and the later kingdom of Balhae, Korea never before or since ruled such a vast territory. In proof of that, Gwanggaeto Stele was erected in 414 at the site of his tomb in Ji’an. It is the largest engraved stele in the world.
Besides, he stabilized the public order. He stabilized the economic and the national life.
Lastly, under Gwanggaeto, Goguryeo once again became a major power of East Asia. That time, Goguryeo was most big and influential nation by him.

The April 9 National Assembly Elections
Posted in The April 9 National Assembly on April 15, 2008 by leeheejeongMy hometown is Bukgu in Busan. The candidates in my hometown running for the Korean National Assembly are Park Min-sik, Im Jong-bo and Jeon Jae-su. Park Min-sik’s political party is Grand National Party. Im Jong-bo’s political party is Family Party For Peace & Unity. Jeon Jae-su’s political party is United Democratic Party. Grand National Party is a conservative party and United Democratic Party is a progressive party. Keen competition was among two party’s candidates, and Grand National Party’s Park Min-sik won. I couldn’t vote because I don’t live in my hometown. However I will vote from now on. I think vote is important. Therefore I think it’s a good idea to have a day off on election day.
